Happy Healthy Cat Month

September is Happy Healthy Cat Month! We love helping keep our feline patients content and purring, even if they aren’t exactly thrilled about coming to visit us. Read on as a Greenwood, IN vet offers tips on keeping your kitty content.

Beds

Cats certainly are drowsy. Your kitty will spend the vast majority just sleeping. Make sure Fluffy has lots of comfy beds to snuggle up in.

Purrniture

Fluffy won’t mind using your things, but she’ll really enjoy having some things she doesn’t have to share. Get your kitty a cat tower, or a pet tent or tipi.

Food

Proper nutrition will play a huge role in Fluffy’s health and well-being. Give your cat nourishing, high-quality food, but don’t overindulge her with fancy treats.

Playtime

Take time to play with Fluffy every day. Batting that catnip mouse around is great for your feline friend both physically and mentally! Cats all have their own opinions about toys, so

Veterinary Care

We know, coming to see us isn’t your kitty’s favorite thing to do, but it’s very important to her health! Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule. At home, watch for any signs of illness, and contact your vet immediately if you notice anything amiss.

Nail Care Station

Scratching is a very strong instinctive habit in kitties. Make sure Fluffy has at least one good nail care station!

Stimulation

Did you know that birdwatching is one of Fluffy’s favorite activities? Give your kitty a comfy seat before a window with a good view.

Facilities

Make sure that Fluffy’s litterbox is both clean and convenient for her. If you have more than one furball, we recommend getting one box per kitty, plus at least one extra.

Safety

Although some kitties really like going outdoors, cats that are allowed to roam are at much greater risk of getting lost, hurt, or even killed than indoor pets. Keep your feline pal safe and sound indoors. We also recommend doing some kittyproofing. Remove or secure potentially dangerous items, such as toxic plants; wires and cords; plastic bags and ties; chemicals; medicine; and anything small or sharp.

Purrs

Kitties have to feel loved—and perhaps a bit pampered. Keep Fluffy’s motor going by paying her lots of attention!
